Eva Marie Saint: Cary Grant

[C]onsidering such a staggering resume, it’s no surprise that Saint is blessed with an uncanny storytelling savvy. On the one hand, this skill reveals itself when she shares personal memories of her movies, like her naïve reaction to the suggestive final images - Eve and Cary Grant’s Roger Thornhill hopping into bed, followed by a shot of a train heading into a tunnel - of North by Northwest, when she first saw the film at its premiere, accompanied by her husband, director Jeffrey Hayden.

Saint in North by Northwest, 1959 Legendary director Alfred Hitchcock surprised many by choosing the stately and serious Saint over dozens of other candidates for the femme fatale role in what was to become a suspense classic North by Northwest (1959) with Cary Grant and James Mason. Written by Ernest Lehman, the film updated and expanded upon the director's early "wrong man" spy adventures of the '30s, '40s, and '50s, including The 39 Steps, Young and Innocent, and Foreign Correspondent. North by Northwest became a box-office hit and an influence on spy films for decades. The film ranks number forty on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time.
Grant and Saint exchange some great dialogue as they flirt with each other. At one point Saint says to Grant, "I'm a big girl." To which Grant replies, "Yeah, and in all the right places, too." Grant ... says to Saint, "The moment I meet an attractive woman, I have to start pretending I have no desire to make love to her." Saint then asks, "What makes you think you have to conceal it?" "She might find the idea objectionable."
