As a college grad, Eva Longoria had intentions of pursuing a career in science, but her lingering feelings for the performing arts did not dissipate. As a result, she entered a talent contest that led her to Los Angeles. Once there, "Miss Corpus Christi 1998" -- an ugly duckling no more -- was spotted by a theatrical agent who signed her immediately.

Eva Longoria says she was an ugly duckling as a child, but she won the Miss Corpus Christi beauty pageant in 1998. She grew up on the family ranch near that city, then earned a degree in kinesiology (human body mechanics) while becoming active in her college's theater department. After graduation, she worked as a model, then sought out an agent and came to Los Angeles, where, in her first roles, she appeared in a stage production of What the Rabbi Saw and played a stewardess on Beverly Hills, 90210. She spent 2½ years on the soap opera The Young and the Restless, playing a former prostitute who tried to kill another woman and ended up in an insane asylum.

She was a student at Roy Miller High School, and pursued her tertiary education at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.
