Ethernet: Ethernet Service Provider
built 645 days ago
"Ethernet is in its fourth decade of existence and the adoption curve for Carrier Ethernet is speeding up," said Mark Whalley, co-chair MEF Marketing Committee. "MEF-14 certification complements MEF 9 certification and is a major step toward making Ethernet truly carrier-class. For a service provider end-customer, MEF-14 certification means confidence that the equipment in the network is capable of providing tightly specified service level agreement behavior in terms of assured bandwidth and application responsiveness."
Juniper Networks' Carrier Ethernet Portfolio Ethernet is becoming the transport technology of choice for carriers who want to increase the capacity of their networks while minimizing costs. The need for additional capacity is being driven by high-bandwidth, next-generation applications such as IPTV and Video on Demand (VoD). In addition, new Ethernet-based services such as virtual private LAN service (VPLS) provide carriers with new revenue opportunities, but ... require additional bandwidth. Ethernet has broad appeal since it is a familiar technology to service providers and provides a cost-effective way to scale the network.

"As Ethernet becomes pervasive in the metro access environment, service providers and equipment manufacturers require solutions such as the TNETV3010 and ZL50408 that utilize Ethernet to effectively process time-sensitive traffic," said Paul Vu, product line marketing manager, Packet Switching, Zarlink Semiconductor. "Our partnership with TI delivers advanced features in a low-power, small-footprint package, offering flexibility for a wide range of applications and customer needs."

Light Reading's Ethernet Expos have garnered a reputation for attracting the best speakers and delivering the most up-to-date analyses of the latest trends in the carrier Ethernet market. Light Reading's research arm, Heavy Reading, will be issuing its second annual Ethernet Service Provider of the Year Awards for North America in three key categories: (1) Market Leadership; (2) Product Portfolio; and (3) Innovation. (For more information on this click here.)
The CEWC 2006 interoperability event is designed to serve as a blueprint for multi-vendor infrastructures offering Carrier Ethernet business services, Triple Play IPTV and Voice over IP residential services. The test event brings together equipment suppliers and European service providers to demonstrate practical implementations of Carrier Ethernet and to address key interoperability issues before actual network implementations. Stratex Networks' Eclipse is the only Wireless Transmission Solution featured. The other participants include: Actelis Networks, ADVA Optical Networking, Alcatel, Ciena, Circadiant Systems, Corrigent Systems, Huawei Technologies, Ixia, Juniper Networks, Lucent Technologies, Nortel, RAD Data Communications, Redback Networks, Telco Systems a BATM company, Tellabs, and T-Systems. A white paper with detailed configurations and results of the interoperability test is publicly available from http://www.stratexnetworks.com .
Heavy Reading will ... be announcing the winners of the Ethernet Service Provider of the Year Awards for North America on October 17 at Ethernet Expo 2007. Winners will be named in these three key categories: market leadership, product portfolio, and innovation. For more information, please visit: http://www.lightreading.com/serviceproviderawards.
