Ethernet: Carrier Ethernet
built 655 days ago
While Ethernet is not a carrier grade Internet Access service it serves small business well. Coverage is spotty and will only be available in large multi-tenant buildings where ISPs can sign up large amounts of clients and achieve quick ROI and profits. Buyers with more data intensive needs may be better served by traditional copper networks such as a T1.

With today's announcement, AT&T's Ethernet suite of services is among the few carrier Ethernet portfolios to receive the MEF-14 certification for performance. This is the second consecutive year that AT&T's Ethernet services have been certified as compliant with the MEF standards.
Ethernet is, quite simply, plugging your network directly into a telecom provider's network. When you bypass the local phone company you cut out an expensive transport step. Having direct access to customers is a carrier's goal as it allows them to control the user's experience from end to end while reducing cost. These savings are passed on to you.
OTTAWA, Canada, May 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Zarlink Semiconductor (NYSE/TSX:ZL) today announced that its ZL(TM)50408 Ethernet switch has been incorporated into a Texas Instruments carrier-class VoIP (Voice-over-Internet Protocol) gateway reference design. The reference design enables network equipment manufacturers to reduce system bill of materials (BOM) and power consumption.
