Epilepsy affects all age groups. Males have a slightly higher risk than females. The incidence is highest in children with another, but lesser, peak occurring after age 60. According to one estimate, 14% of epilepsy patients are under 15 years old and about 25% are over age 64.

Patients should discuss about how to take the drugs, when to take it and what are the side effects for these drugs. Many children are unable to swallow medication in a capsule or tablet form.

Epilepsy services comprise patients undergoing inpatient surgical assessments, evaluations to provide differential diagnostic information and routine outpatient assessments to children with epilepsy. This is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary rotation that requires the resident to interact and consult with neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, radiology technicians, social work, child life and nursing staff.
