Enya is a self-admitted slow worker when it comes to composing music. As a result, fans have had to wait as long as five years between albums. In 2004, Enya was reportedly working on her next album, but no release date is in sight. In September 2004, a new song called 'Sumiregusa' was unveiled in Japan as part of an advertising campaign for Panasonic (commercial release has yet to occur as of November 2004). In announcing the new recording, Warner Music Japan stated that Enya's next album was scheduled for release (in Japan at least) in mid-November. After a brief flurry of excitement among fans, Enya issued a press release on her official Web site on 19 September stating that this was a mistake and no new album is immediately forthcoming.

Enya is a keep-to-herself person who loves cats. She had 12 cats at one point. She lives in Manderley Castle, Victoria Road Killiney, County Dublin, Ireland. Her house was named after a castle in her favorite book, and black and white movie, Rebecca.

Watermark has sold in excess of 10 million, Shepherd Moons 11 million, The Memory Of Trees 8 million, Paint The Sky With Stars 10 million, and her latest album, A Day Without Rain, has sold over 15 million copies and spent almost two years on the Billboard charts. This year Enya was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music (Song) and for a Golden Globe for "May It Be," written and recorded for The Lord Of The Rings -- The Fellowship Of The Ring. The track won the Los Angeles Film Critics Award for Best Song.

Enya was slow to follow up on the success of Shepherd Moons, spending nearly four years working on her fourth album. The record, entitled Memory of Trees, was released in December of 1995. Memory of Trees entered the U.S. charts at number nine and sold over two million copies within its first year of release. In 1997 came the release of a greatest-hits collection, Paint the Sky with Stars: The Best of Enya, which featured two new songs. Enya\'s first album of new material in five years, Day Without Rain, was released in late 2000. In 2002, she contributed material to the first film in Peter Jackson\'s award-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy, scoring a hit with the single "May It Be." Amarantine, her first full-length recording since Day Without Rain, followed in November of 2005.

Enya adopted a lower profile for the next couple of years except for an appearance with Sinéad O'Connor. She returned in 1991 with the UK chart-topper Shepherd Moons, which by the mid-90s had attained world sales of 10 million copies. The album was hugely successful in America, and in 1993 won the Grammy for Best New Age Album. Her third collection, 1995's The Memory Of Trees, did not alter the winning formula, and the artist spent the remainder of the decade contributing soundtrack material to various projects, before returning to the studio to record A Day Without Rain. The album shot up the US and several European charts almost a year after its 2000 release, thanks to the use of the track "Only Time" in news coverage of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York.
