One of the principal physiographic features of England, as well as of the entire island of Great Britain, is the deeply indented coast. Most of the indentations are excellent natural harbors, easily accessible to deepwater shipping, a factor that has been decisive in the economic development and imperial expansion of England. By virtue of the high tides that prevail along the eastern coast, a number of rivers and their estuaries provide this region with safe anchorages. The most important of these belong to such ports as Newcastle upon Tyne, on the Tyne River; Middlesbrough, on the Tees River; Hull, on the Humber River; Great Yarmouth, on the estuary of the Yare River; and London, on the Thames River. The most important harbors on the southern coast include those of Dover, Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, and Plymouth. The western coast, considerably more broken than either the eastern or southern coast... has numerous anchorages.

The story of England and the English is one of history's most remarkable sagas. The word "England" evokes many different images: great cities with their imposing Georgian, Victorian and modern architecture; the Mediaeval castles and cathedrals of country towns; and the delightful villages and rolling hills that the poet and visionary William Blake called "England's green and pleasant land". And now the modern England, where innovation and dramatic new architecture in London, such as the London Eye and Canary Wharf, illustrates the constant collision of old and new that fuel England's (and the UK's) vibrant creativity.

England had wins against Southern Hemisphere teams in the 1970s; with victories over South Africa in 1972, New Zealand in 1973 and Australia in 1976. The 1972 Five Nations Championship was not completed due to the Troubles in Northern Ireland when Scotland and Wales refused to play their Five Nations away fixtures in Ireland. England played in Dublin in 1973 and were given a standing ovation lasting five minutes. After losing 18–9 at Lansdowne Road, the England captain, John Pullin famously stated, "We might not be very good but at least we turned up."[31]

New England Patriot tickets have been available since 1960, as the Patriots were one of the charter members of the AFL. Although the team won a division championship in 1963 and had some success in the late 1970's, the team struggled throughout most of their history until the dawn of the new century. The Patriots won three Super Bowls between the years of 2001 and 2004, and they are looking to extend their dynasty with each passing year.
