The study found that websites from different countries received unequal representation in major search engines. U.S. sites had a statistically significantly higher chance of being indexed than did sites from other countries. Chinese sites had the lowest average coverage rate among the four countries studied. When all types of sites and all search engines in the study were combined, an average of 93.6% U.S. sites was indexed, whereas only 79.8% sites from China were indexed. The favorable coverage of the U.S. sites could not be attributed to the language of the sites, as both the U.S. and Singapore sites in the study used English. However, the Singapore sites had lower rates of coverage than their U.S. counterparts.
