HATZ, a firm with 125 years of innovation in diesel engines, is an acknowledged global leader in the design of air and liquid-cooled diesel engines. The Band D series are single-cylinder air cooled diesel engines, horizontal and vertical shaft, that range in size from 232 to 722 cc and deliver from 3 to 15 HP.

While some engines are air-cooled, the vast majority of engines are liquid cooled. The water pump circulates coolant throughout the engine, hitting the hot areas around the cylinders and heads and then sends the hot coolant to the radiator to be cooled off. All glow engines will require glow fuel, fuel line and spare glow plugs. You may ... need a muffler or tuned pipe. Most model airplanes require an engine mount, which may or may not be included with the kit. All model airplanes and many boats will also require propeller(s).

Of all internal-combustion engines, the diesel engine is the most efficientthat is, it can extract the greatest amount of mechanical energy from a given amount of fuel. It achieves this high level of performance by compressing air to high pressures before injecting very small droplets of fuel into the combustion chamber.

Air-breathing engines use atmospheric air to oxidise the fuel carried, rather than carrying an oxidiser, as in a rocket. Theoretically, this should result in a better specific impulse than for rocket engines. Air-breathing engines include:
