Encarta Encyclopedia is a comprehensive resource program with over 36,000 articles and 19,000 web links. The program has three main features: Find, Encarta Explorer, and Media & Online Features. The find option allows the user to scroll through articles or simply type in areas of interest. The program pulls up a major article, along with related articles and web links. Encarta Explorer offers a multimedia option for gathering information within a variety of categories and subcategories. For example, the user can point and click on Humanities.

Encarta Kids is an exciting addition to an already outstanding encyclopedia suite. However, it could have been better. Since it is for young children, it should have more content that can be read out loud. Also, while the articles are easier to read than those found in Encarta Encyclopedia, they contain words that some kids don't know. Unlike other sections of Encarta, kids can't click on a difficult word to have it defined in the suite's integrated dictionary.

This suite truly makes a wonderful research "companion".Articles contain encyclopedia information, of course, as well as extras like a "web center" box with links to Encarta editors' hand-picked online links. A search for a particular city will offer regional news, current temperatures, dynamic atlas, and so forth.

Encarta's content is accessible using a conversational interface on Windows Live Messenger via the MSN Bot "Encarta Instant Answers".[15] The bot can answer many encyclopedia related questions directly in the IM window. It uses short sentences from the Encarta website, and sometimes displays full articles in the Internet Explorer-based browser on the right. It ... can complete simple math and advanced algebra problems. This service is also available in German,[16] Spanish,[17] French[18] and Japanese.[19]

The larger Encarta portal on MSN contains much more than the encyclopedia. It ... offers a dictionary, thesaurus and atlas for a one-stop reference source. Quizzes add fun to the overall presentation. Homework help, sorted by grade level, is also available.
