Elon University School of Law presented “The Exonerated” Friday, Sept. 28,a play based on the real-life cases of six death row inmates who were wrongly convicted. The production was stagedin the law school library.

Although most of the turf at Elon University is tall fescue, common bermudagrass creeps in, leaving brown patches in the winter. The crew overseeds the high use and highly visible areas, such as this quadrangle in front the Moseley Campus Center, with rygrass to mask the bermudagrass and to provide better winter color. The display garden at center features Elon’s mascot, the Phoenix, in a bed of tulips and pansies.

With a student body of 4,500, Elon offers the opportunities and facilities of a university in a close-knit community atmosphere. Since its founding in 1889, Elon has grown to be a nationally recognized institution. Seventy percent of Elon's students come from out of state, and forty-seven states and thirty-six nations are represented in the student body. Student satisfaction is consistently high: 87 percent of students eligible to return to Elon do so. Freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus. Students are housed in one of the thirty residence halls on campus. In addition, there are thirteen fraternity and sorority houses.

Jack McKeon - Elon Class of 1963 - Manager of Major League Baseball's 2003 World Champion Florida Marlins. McKeon was named National League Manager of the Year by the Baseball Writers Association of America in 2003 and 1999. He has spent 50 years in baseball and built a reputation as one of Major League Baseball's finest managers, leading the Marlins, Reds, Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres. Isabella Cannon - First female mayor of a state capital city - Elon Class of 1924-Cannon spent most of her life involved in leadership and public service. In 1977, at the age of 73, she became the first woman elected mayor of Raleigh and the first female mayor of a state capital city. She had never before run for office and gained coverage in world media including 60 Minutes, Time and Newsweek.

Spike Lee used Elon as one of the university locations for the movie He Got Game. The Alamance Building, Fonville Fountain, and the Moseley Center's outside patio were the setting for the movie's "Tech University."
