Elon University: Programs
built 620 days ago
Elon University has built a national reputation for its active, hands-on style of teaching and learning. The academic program is distinguished by a strong foundation in the liberal arts and sciences combined with outstanding professional programs. Students and faculty form close, mentoring relationships in a strong community environment. Engaged learning programs earn top rankings, with high student participation in the five core Elon Experiences: study abroad, undergraduate research, service, internships and leadership.
When Elon enrolled its first PT class in 1998, the university offered a master’s degree – the most common degree available at the time. As the medical community endorsed the notion of PTs taking a more substantial role in the direct care of patients, the profession recommended that PT programs raise the bar and begin transitioning into doctoral-level education. Improving the quality of patient care continues to be the driving force behind the DPT. In 2003, Elon debuted a leading-edge DPT program that integrates dynamic classroom instruction with an impressive amount of hands-on clinical opportunities. The result is a program that ranked in the top 30 percent of all accredited DPT programs in its first year of eligibility (source: U.S. News and World Report). In partnership with Alamance Regional Medical Center, Elon's Department of Physical Therapy Education was created in 1996.
Known for its beautiful campus, Elon has some of the finest academic facilities in the region. The most recent additions include the new Academic Village, with classrooms and housing for honors, international, and political science students; the 74,000-square-foot McMichael Science Building; the new 75,000-square-foot Belk Library; and more than 150,000 square feet of activity space in the Koury Athletics Center and Moseley Campus Center. A communications facility opened in 2000 and houses two television studios, nonlinear digital audio/video editing equipment, and cameras to support a student-run cable channel that features programs of news, music videos, sports broadcasting, and social issues. Classroom facilities offer interactive multimedia and teleconferencing capabilities with computer and satellite links, Internet access, laser disc technology, and cable television.

Originally known as Elon College until it became Elon University in 2001, the historic campus was designated a botanical garden in 2004. This requires the landscape crew to produce educational programs and publications about the grounds, sponsor horticulture internships, and maintain hundreds of plant and tree labels.
In addition to a challenging academic curriculum, Elon encourages students to participate in five programs known as the Elon Experiences: student undergraduate research, study abroad, internships, service learning, and leadership. Elon is ranked number one nationally among comparable institutions for the percentage of students who participate in study-abroad programs. Seventy-five percent of Elon graduates complete internships, compared to approximately 33 percent nationally, and approximately 88 percent of Elon students volunteer in the community. Students can record their participation on an Elon Experiences transcript, which is issued as a companion to the traditional academic transcript.

Robertson mentions Elon University numerous times in this program. XM has previously aired another of Robertson’s CDs, “Southern Style,” which was ... produced by Elon Television Services. Stories from several of the humorist’s CDs air daily on the network’s Laugh USA, The Family Comedy Channel. The feature set for November will air four times on “Comedy Pinata,” a program that spotlights one performer a week in complete, uninterrupted presentations.
