Elon is a premier small, private university founded in 1889 by the Christian Church, now the United Church of Christ. Elon has a beautiful, well-maintained campus on more than 500 acres in the town of Elon. It is 30 minutes northwest of Durham and Chapel Hill, N.C., and 20 minutes east of Greensboro. Elon has recently undergone major growth on campus. In July 2002, the renovation of Carlton Building was completed. The building now houses the Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies, El Centro de Español, a multimedia language media center and the departments of English and foreign languages.

Approximately 60 percent of Elon students receive some form of financial assistance. The CSS Financial Aid PROFILE is used to determine eligibility for institutional need-based aid. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is used to determine eligibility for federal aid programs. Elon participates in all federal and state grant and loan programs, including the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Stafford Student Loan, Federal Work-Study Program, North Carolina Legislative Tuition Grant, and several outside loan and payment programs. Scholarships are available for athletic and fine arts achievement and through Army and Air Force ROTC. Free room and board are provided for recipients of a four-year ROTC scholarship.
