Eli Lilly is at a fork in the road. The problem is that the company might not have a huge choice when it comes to the direction that it gets to take. The path to the right has the FDA approve Lilly's new blood thinner drug, prasugrel, allowing it to compete with the likes of Bristol-Myers Squibb's (BMY: Charts, News, Offers) Plavik. To the left the company faces an FDA disapproval or a return to more expensive testing, something that will make both doctors and investors edgy. With mounting pressure to create a new blockbuster drug, will the Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company crack or will it rise to the occasion?
