NEW HAVEN, Conn., June 2, 2003 -- Rising Greek star Eleni Daniilidou has become the sixth top-15 pro to enter the singles field of the 2003 Pilot Pen Tennis presented by Michelob ULTRA, A USTA Event. The 20-year-old Daniilidou (da-NEE'-li-doo), currently ranked at a career-best No. 14 on the WTA Tour, will be making her first appearance at the tournament, held August 15-23, 2003, at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.
Daniilidou has four career WTA singles titles to her credit, but none since 2006 in Seoul. She beat Zvonareva in the quarterfinals of that tournament and has a record of 2-1 against the 23-year-old Muscovite.

Ed Gorman and Lewis Hamilton Slicing away at HeninHardenne’s confidence and low energy levels, Daniilidou took the first set in a tie-break that the 23-year-old Belgian was unlucky to lose 10-8 on a dubious line call. Despite the flattering 6-2 scoreline in the second set, Henin-Hardenne resembled a player who had left her game on the Eurostar. Her concentration was lacking and her groundstrokes more akin to stray bullets than the surefire artillery she usually packs.

The Russian second seed plays Argentine Gisela Dulko, ranked No 59.
