Electronic Contract Manufacturing (ECM) is a description for firms that contract for the electronic assembly for another company. For example, rather than manufacturing their own complex circuit boards, OEM companies frequently outsource their manufacturing needs to ECM companies. Contract manufacturers often do not display their own brand name on the products that they produce; instead both the brand name and design belong to the OEM.
