Electromagnetism: Fields

As mentioned in the Swan Orientation Film, Electromagnetism is or was one of the fields studied by the DHARMA Initiative. On the Island, the Swan station was presumably intended to serve this purpose before the incident. It is unclear whether the DHARMA Initiative was responsible for creating the Island's unique magnetic properties, or was merely researching them.

It is ... a branch of physics that is focused on the study of the electromagnetic field produced by the combination of the magnetic field and the electric field that encompass all of space. Electric fields are produced by electric charges that are static, while magnetic fields are produced by electric charges that are in motion.

Electromagnetism broadly refers to the phenomena and properties of electric and magnetic fields. Many events occur on the Island that ostensibly are caused by electromagnetic phenomena, especially those connected to the Swan.
