Adnavance Technologies Inc. is a private nanobiotechnology company developing technologies that use the electrical conductivity properties of DNA and novel metallic forms of DNA ("M-DNA"), for commercial applications in the healthcare and nanotechnology industries. Founded on discoveries made at the University of Saskatchewan, Adnavance completed two seed financings and commenced operations in early 2003. The Company's headquarters and engineering facilities are located in Vancouver, BC and its research laboratories are located in Saskatoon, SK.

Carbon nanotubes have extraordinary electrical conductivity properties. They are probably the best electron field-emitter possible. This is understandable, given their high electrical conductivity, and the unbeatable sharpness of their tip. The sharpness of the tip ... means that they emit at especially low voltage, an important fact for building electrical devices that utilize this feature.

An expression for the electrical conductivity of thin metal wires of a circular cross-section has been derived taking account of conduction-electron scattering at grain boundaries and the wire surface. An angular-dependent specularity parameter has been introduced and possible fluctuations of the wire diameter along its length have been taken into account. Boltzmann transport equations have been solved for the boundary conditions proposed by Dingle.

The electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and viscosity of models of the quiet photosphere and the umbra of a sunspot have been calculated using LTE ionization equilibria and the Chapman-Enskog theory of transport coefficients. The results are presented in the tabular form, and compared with previous calculations.
To measure DO, the Center has several types of electrical conductivity and dissolved oxygen meters (available only for UW students, faculty, and staff). Methods will vary with meter type and habitat type (surface vs. hyporheic).
