Electric Chair

The Electric Chair During the 1880's two developments set the stage for the invention of the electric chair. Beginning in 1886, the New York State Government established a legislative commission to study alternate forms of capitol punishment. Hanging was then the number one method of carrying out the death penalty, even while considered too slow and painful a method of execution. Another development was the growing rivalry between the two giants of electrical service. The Edison General Electric Company founded by Thomas Edison established themselves with DC service. George Westinghouse developed AC service and started the Westinghouse Corporation.
Electric Chair has become one of the UK's leading club night's for those who love music with soul regardless of what era it comes from. The guests that have passed through include Tho Parrish, Danny Krivit, Joe Claussel, Giles Peterson and Osunlade. Even though the guests contribution has been immense its the resident Unabombers who have really pushed the musical direction of the night with killer extended sets and the release of albums to show the world what The Chair is all about.
The Electric Chair was first used during the 'Love It To Death' tour. The original chair was hand built by the band for use during 'Black Juju'. Alice would sit on the chair, hynotising the audience with an old pocket watch (something he had done before the chair was made as well) only to be 'electrified' for his trouble. This original chair now rests in the Paul Brenton collection'.
The "Electric Chair" will always be associated with Sing Sing. It was first used in the 1890s when Harris A. Smiler was the first to be electrocuted. Between then and 1963, 613 more men and women died in the prison's chair. The Rosenbergs were electrocuted in 1953 after an international story of espionage.

Recently released Minutes of the British War Cabinet show that in December 1942, Winston Churchill proposed that Hitler - if caught - should be summarily executed in an electric chair, obtained from the USA. 'This man is the mainspring of evil. Instrument - electric chair, for gangsters, no doubt available on lease-lend'.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref>
