1. Election -- Presidential Election
   Secretary of State Betty Ireland would like to remind voters that West Virginia’s Primary Election will be held on May 13th, the second Tuesday in May, as required by state law. Voters will have the opportunity to cast their vote on a full slate of candidates, including presidential candidates, at that time.
2. 2001 (2000)
   The 2001 California State Science Fair was held on May 21-22 in the California Science Center (the current host of the Fair) and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (the original host of the Fair). Similar to recent years, this year there were 952 participants from 364 schools throughout the State presenting projects in competition for $40,000 in awards.
3. Algeria -- Elections
   A new feature of US-Algerian relations in the late 1990s was the involvement of private NGOs in Algeria. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International tried to monitor the situation and call attention to human rights abuses. The National Democratic Institute tried to encourage democratisation by engaging with independent Algerian journalists and members of the National Assembly after the 1997 elections. These modest steps did not bring significant change, but they broadened US involvement with Algeria and kept pressure on the regime to address issues of concern.
4. Haiti -- Elections
   The occasion, as Jim Zwick points out in a lucid essay on Haiti and the anti-imperialist tradition, was the election of 1920, when Roosevelt was running for vice president. It was, remarks Zwick, "one of the more notable gaffes of the campaign."
5. Election Fraud
   Election / voter fraud is as serious and detrimental to this nation as treason and espionage, and should be prosecuted and punished by the same standards. To change the results of an election of public officials by dishonest means rips the very fabric of the greatest nation to ever exist. That cannot be overlooked or condoned.
6. Windows 2000 -- Systems
   Let's consider a Windows 2000 workstation with a newly created account for a user named Richard Lang with the username RLang. When Richard logs on to the client, the system creates a profile directory for him corresponding to his username Rlang in the Documents and Settings directory. If Richard were to log on to a Windows NT workstation or a Windows 2000 workstation that was upgraded from a previous version of Windows NT, the profile would be created under the %systemroot%\Profiles[2] directory.
7. George W. Bush -- Election
   Bush emphasized a careful approach to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Bush denounced Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat for alleged support of violence. However, he sponsored dialogs between prime ministers Ariel Sharon and Mahmoud Abbas. Bush supported Sharon's unilateral disengagement plan, and lauded the democratic elections held in Palestine after Arafat's death.
8. Electoral College -- Elections
   Originally, the Electoral College provided the Constitutional Convention with a compromise between the popular election of the President and Congressional selection. The 12th Amendment—ratified in 1804—changed the original process, allowing for separate ballots and contingency elections for determining the President and Vice President. 9. Ralph Nader -- Elections
   Ralph Nader's presidential campaign has mostly been of interest to mainstream journalists not for the ideas or new voters that it brings to the election, but for the impact it might have on Democrat Al Gore's electoral chances. The headline "Nader's Bid Complicates Gore's Task" (
10. Presidential Debates -- Elections
    Presidential debates are held late in the election cycle, after the political parties have nominated their candidates. The candidates meet in a large hall, often at a university, before an audience of citizens. The formats of the debates have varied, with questions sometimes posed from one or more journalist moderators and in other cases members of the audience. Between 1988 and 2000, the formats have been governed in detail by secret memoranda of understanding between the two major candidates; an MOU for 2004 was ... negotiated, but unlike the earlier agreements it was jointly released by the two candidates.
