Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) is an important Islamic religious festival that is observed by Muslims world-wide. In Algeria, a predominantly Muslim country, this festival is ... referred to as Eid el-Kbir. This is one of the two Eid festivals that are celebrated by Muslims – the other being Eid ul-Fitr that marks the end of Ramadan.

On this day, Moslems around the world slaughter sheep and cattle to mark the feast and donate the meat to the poor.

According to tradition, a large portion of the meat from the sacrifice of Eid al-Adha should be distributed among the poor and hungry, so that everyone can join in the feast. Only one-third of the meat is eaten by the immediate family and relatives.
