Effexor: Effexor Withdrawal
built 641 days ago
In addition, one very rare side effect, which Effexor's manufacturer calls "withdrawal syndrome", is that the patient, once acclimatized to Effexor, is unable to discontinue taking the drug. With this discontinuation effect apparently permanent, the patient is "hooked for life".
If already using Effexor, the best advice is to taper off slowly instead of going “cold turkey.” It is important to develop a specific tapering schedule with your health care provider to minimize Effexor withdrawl symptoms. Anyone discontinuing Effexor runs the risk of suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
Effexor is not known to be addictive, but withdrawal symptoms may be present when this drug is discontinued in patients who have taken it for a long time. Dosage should be gradually tapered to avoid withdrawal.
