Edwards Plateau
built 635 days ago
When the Edwards Plateau data are plotted following the models of Clench (Fig. 5), and Holloway (Fig. 6) ... the asymptotic curves indicate that the "maximum" number of species in Bandera and Real counties might be only 110—120, not 160—165.
During these rare large floods, the bedrock channels of Edwards Plateau streams are scoured of their bouldery alluvium, exposing fresh white limestone bedrock along channel beds and banks. The high albedo of the valley floors results in the clarity of drainage depiction by this Landsat image (Figures F-1.1 and Figure F-1.2). The gray patina of the plateau limestone on interfluves, plus local soil and vegetation cover, provide a marked contrast to the flood-dominated channel floors when viewed from orbit.Landsat 21711-16314-7, September 29.1979.
edwards The Edwards Plateau is limestone composed of the deposited remains of tiny creatures that lived in a sea that vanished millions of years ago. During the drainage of that ancient sea and the formation of the Gulf of Mexico, there occurred a break and slip in the Earth's crust, centered along a linear fault zone.
Membership is open to anyone over the age of sixteen years. Persons residing outside the Edwards Plateau area may become non-voting members. Annual dues are $5 per person or $7.50 per couple.

The current value of resources and services that the Edwards Plateau provides to the national economy on a sustainable basis is difficult to ascertain. Minor forest products are not only minor, but negligible in importance.

It seemed likely that the patch-by-patch arrangement or architecture of range plant communities on Edwards Plateau mixed prairie savanna reflected competition (eg. for light), adaptation to microsite variables (eg. edaphic features such as soil depth or stoniness), past spot grazing (perhaps localized overuse or overgrazing), or simply chance (ie. the Gleasonian view of plant communities).
