Educational Psychology is a degree program area in the Department of Foundations and Special Services. Masters degrees offered are M.Ed or M.A. (thesis required) in Learning and Development. The Ph.D. program is designed to develop those competencies and skills necessary to make contributions to theory and research that have implications for the practice in schools and various alternative settings.

The Educational Psychology concentration prepares individuals for the professional practice of school psychology. Doctoral level school psychologists work in public and private school systems, colleges and universities, preschool and child-development centers, and private practice. Typical responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, consultation, program planning, and intervention services to preschool and school-age children with educational, emotional, and behavioral problems. This is a professional degree that is aimed at preparing school psychologists for added responsibility in the area of supervision or more in-depth understanding of school psychological practice and research methodology. It is planned to be a continuation of the Ed.S degree. Certification/licensure as a school psychologist is advisable.

Educational Psychology and Research and Evaluation Methodology offer two master’s degrees: the Master of Arts in Education (M.A.E.) and the Master of Education. The former requires a master’s thesis. Either degree can be awarded as a terminal degree. Students who complete the entry-level program in School Psychology receive an M.A.E. degree and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree as terminal degrees. The Educational Psychology/School Psychology Doctoral Program may be reduced by up to 33 semester hours if a student has completed an Ed.S. degree in School Psychology at National-Louis University. Reduction of doctoral program requirements must be approved by the student’s advisor, the director of the student’s doctoral program, and the Director of Doctoral Programs
