Edie Sedgwick's husband, Michael Post, woke up on the morning of November 16, 1971 to find Edie lying dead next to him in bed. The Coronor classified her death as an "Accident/Suicide" and the cause of her death as "acute barbituate intoxication."

Sedgwick was buried in the small Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard, California in a simple grave. Her headstone reads "Edith Sedgwick Post - Wife Of Michael Brett Post 1943-1971". The family attended her memorial service.

After the fashion show Edie attended a party and was verbally attacked by one of the guests who called her a heroin addict. The guest was so loud that she was asked to leave. Edie rang Michael who arrived at the party and could see that Edie had been drinking.
