Eddie Griffin: Undercover Brother
built 195 days ago
Eddie-Griffin-Enzo.jpg Eddie Griffin's moderate-speed publicity stunt wipeout of real estate-monger turned B-movie producer Daniel Sadek's gazillion dollar Ferrari means two things. Carbon fiber, while totally light and high tech, sort of blows because a "just needs a bit o'Bondo" smashup like Understeering Brother managed to hoon means the car is totaled. Scrap. Headed for the proverbial junkyard in the sky. But the "accident" ... means that another perfectly ballistic 65-degree, 6.0-liter V12 good for 650 horsepower is collecting dust in one of Southern California's many sun-drenched warehouses. To give you a modicum of perspective, AMG needs two intercooled turbochargers hooked up to the same size engine to generate 612 ponies (never mind the TORQUE!) in the just-about-here CL65.

Watch as Deuce Bigalow's main man Eddie Griffin crashes a $1.5 million Ferrari Enzo through a wall at a promo for the film Redline. Owner Daniel Sadek admits "mixed feelings" about the crash. Griffin admits that "brother can't drive." Sadek agrees. Here's hoping all are insured.

Looks like Eddie Griffin hasn't been coached well enough by the PR people for his film Redline. Griffin missed an obvious opportunity to use the movie's tagline, "Fear Nothing. Risk Everything" to explain why he crashed a Ferrari Enzo during a charity event to promote the movie. Instead, he answers inquiries as to what happened with, "The brother can't drive." Nice. See the interview in its entirety here.

Quickly following with performances on HBO's Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam and a Cable Ace Award-nominated special, Griffin began branching out into acting. Roles in such films as “The Last Boy Scout” (1991), “Coneheads” (1993), and “Jason's Lyric” (1994) soon led to a sitcom (Malcolm and Eddie) in 1996, and Griffin's film appearances became more frequent. After headlining 2001's “Double Take” alongside Orlando Jones, Griffin seemed poised for leading-man status, and with his role as Anton Jackson in “Undercover Brother”, it seemed as if Griffin had conquered not only the stage, but the silver screen as well. In addition to his comedic skills, Griffin is ... a gifted dancer and choreographer.
Reports of Griffin's excessive drinking were steady through his NBA years. A family friend insisted those troubles could largely be traced to the death of his half-brother, Marvin Powell, in March 2001. Powell starred in basketball at Martin Luther King and Hartford and was a father figure for Eddie, who even lived with Powell in Connecticut through much of the early 1990s. However, the two had a falling-out during the winter of 2000-01, when Griffin was playing for Seton Hall and possible agents were being eyed. Powell died of a heart attack in March 2001.
Abed Hassuneh, who is the brother of the victim, said Griffin told him, “That he was masturbating himself going down that street. That’s how the accident happened because he was not paying attention. He’s paying attention to that video and all of a sudden he’s shoveled somebody’s car on the top of the sidewalk.”
