Eddie Griffin: Seton Hall
built 186 days ago
Eddie Jamal Griffin was his own worst enemy, even if he was nobody else's. A troubled young man whose alcohol addiction overran his athletic ability, Griffin never reached the potential his vast basketball skills made available to him through one year at Seton Hall and five pockmarked seasons in the NBA. He died at age 25, his vehicle bursting into flames upon impact with the freight car and Griffin's body burned so badly that investigators needed five days and a set of dental records to identify him.

In May 2006, Triple H appeared in commercials for Miller Lite where he debates "Man Law" with the likes of Burt Reynolds, Eddie Griffin and Jerome Bettis. His appearances in this advertising campaign are ironic, given his personal stance against the consumption of alcohol. That same month, he ... appeared in a commercial for USA Network with Anthony Michael Hall, which cross-promoted RAW and Hall's show, The Dead Zone; the main comedic factor being Cena leaving a sunburn enhanced handprint on Triple H's back. He has also been featured in an energy drink advertisement.

As a freshman, Griffin averaged 17.8 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4.4 blocks for Seton Hall University, and was at one point thought to be a potential top pick in the 2001 NBA Draft. He was named the nation's Freshman of the Year by The Sporting News [2].

If you spent any time around Griffin, it was easier to understand why so many people kept giving him second and third chances even after his repeated troubles with the law and struggles with drinking. He had a softness about him, a vulnerability. He was a quiet kid at Seton Hall, almost shy. Maybe the spotlight was too much. Maybe he never wanted to be the nation's No. 1 high school recruit and an NBA millionaire, but at some point that became the only option he really had.

Griffin had a history of violence dating back to his high school years. In his senior year at Roman, he got into a fight with a teammate in the cafeteria and was subsequently forced out of the school[5], though he received his diploma a month after graduation; the teammate was expelled. At Seton Hall, rumors circulated that he had gotten into several verbal and physical confrontations with teammates.
