Eddie Griffin: Nba Draft
built 149 days ago
[I]n June, Griffin began working out in Houston with ex-NBA star Calvin Murphy in hopes of jump-starting his career. Griffin missed an Aug. 15 morning session; two days later, at 1:30 a.m., the player's blue SUV went through a railroad crossing barrier and hit the freight train.

In January 2001, Griffin got in a fight with a teammate, and following this incident, the Pirates' season fell apart. Griffin left the school in somewhat acrimonious circumstances after his freshman year, and made himself available for the NBA Draft.[3]
Murphy described Griffin as a model student, always on time for his daily, 90-minute workouts and dedicated to improving. Griffin told Murphy that he had contacted the Denver Nuggets about a possible workout before the upcoming season. Murphy and Wernick both said Griffin was considering playing in Europe if the NBA didn't pan out.
"America is a very forgiving country, all for giving a second and third chance," said ex-NBA player Gus Gerard, a recovering addict who offered Griffin support. "And in a multibillion dollar business, there's always a team somewhere that's going to give him that chance."
