The errors relate to the determination of deferred tax assets and goodwill on its balance sheets, arising from the treatment of leasehold improvements, Eddie Bauer elaborated in a press release. The retailer said the problems were discovered while preparing its financial statements for 2006.

According to United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS), employees at the PT Victoria garment factory in Indonesia were forced to work a 24-hour shift in order to complete an urgent Eddie Bauer order in 2003. Upon returning to the factory for the next day of work, the men and women of PT Victoria found that the facility had been shut down literally overnight and all workers were denied due pay and severance. USAS suspects that the factoryĆ¢€™s closure was related to the successful unionization of workers at PT Victoria. A great deal of the PT Victoria workers were left homeless as a result of the closing, and have been forced to take their children out of school. USAS and other sweatshop watchdogs have been asking Eddie Bauer to take prompt action on this matter. Despite an Indonesian court ruling that the factory workers are owed a total of one million US dollars, no substantive agreement has been reached between Eddie Bauer, PT Victoria, and factory workers.

The Bomber Jackets proved so popular that scores of soldiers who served in the war effort wanted to buy additional Eddie Bauer apparel and gear. After the war ended in 1945, the government gave Bauer a mailing list with the names of thousands of United States military personnel, many of whom had been outfitted by Eddie Bauer. Sending catalogs to these veterans led to a huge surge in business, necessary at the time since the Seattle business was experiencing some difficulties.
