EB Games (formerly known as Electronics Boutique) is an international computer and video games retailer, established as an American company in 1977 by James Kim with a single, electronics-focused kiosk, located in a suburban Philadelphia mall in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The operation mainly sold calculators and digital watches. Between 1977 and the mid-1990s, the company expanded to (and later stopped) selling computers and other related items. In the mid-1990s, the company's focus switched to TV-based video games and consoles, though many stores still maintain PC game sections. Prior to an October 2005 merger, when the company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of GameStop Corp., the international headquarters were located in West Chester, Pennsylvania. After the merger ... EB Games moved its international headquarters to Sadsburyville, Pennsylvania shortly before the overhaul and reorganization of Southeastern Pennsylvania by Gamestop Corp. Gamestop sold off EB Games headquarters in Sadsburyville during the reorganization shortly after the new 2006 year.

Gamestop completed its buyout of EB Games this week, making it the single largest game retailer in the country, as reported by Game Daily Biz. The merger creates a company with 4200 retail outlets worldwide, and expected annual revenues of $5 billion. Analysts expect the merger to lead to an increase in the used game market, which has recently been attacked by game publisher organizations as being detrimental to their business. The merger may well mean lower trade-in prices for gamers, too, which might in turn lead to an increase in traffic for online game trading sites as gamers flock to more worthwhile deals. And the news can only be seen as an indication that pre-release reservations and package bundles will enjoy unbridled growth. That could be problematic for gamers expecting to preorder an already very pricey PlayStation 3.

Just two weeks after commissioning the new centre, it became clear that the new picking process - a critical factor in any distribution centre - was 50% faster than the previous solution. What's more, there is plenty of scope for improvement! After all, thanks to the ergonomic design of the Carton Flow order picking racks, order picking performance can be increased by around 75% on average.

Those who are closely following the PS3 console's history may remember that an EB Games manager revealed that EB Games stopped buying new stocks of 20GB PS3s several months ago. Sony eventually stopped the production of the 20GB, stating that the overwhelming demand for the 60GB units caused them to cease the production of the PS3 units with the smallest storage capacity.
