East Fife: St Andrews
built 266 days ago
East Fife's best years were undoubtedly in the decade following the Second World War. During this "Golden Period", the club won the Scottish League Cup on no fewer than three separate occasions, as well as adding a third Scottish Cup final appearance to its achievements. The club’s league record is ... impressive. In the five seasons between 1948 and 1953, East Fife finished its Scottish First Division (then the pinnacle of Scottish football) campaign in third place twice and in fourth place twice. In one of these seasons, 1952–53, East Fife were still in the running for the league title with only a few games remaining, eventually finishing only four points behind eventual champions Rangers.
After a minutes applause in memory of a recently deceased East Fife official the game started fairly tamely. In six minutes Alan Benton cleared the ball from close to Rovers goal following a slightly wayward attempt.
The St Andrews & East Fife Local Plan is published alongside the new Fife Structure Plan which sets out a vision for Fife over the next 20 years. The development plan framework provided by these documents is ambitious and aspirational; to many, it will be contentious, but Fife is looking ahead to meeting the environmental, economic, and social challenges that lie ahead. Not least among these is the need to provide houses of a quality and price affordable to those who find it difficult to stay within their own communities. Providing local services and infrastructure such as transport improvements and drainage, and facilities to serve communities ... presents a challenge to the public sector service providers and to the private sector who increasingly will provide the necessary investment.

East Fife's home matches are played at Bayview Stadium, capacity 2,000 (all seated). The ground has one stand and is open at the three remaining sides. The far side is overshadowed by the derelict Methil power station.
In 31 minutes a blatant handball by an East Fife player just outside his own box mysteriously resulted in a free-kick to his team. Next Hunter did well to dispossess Guy and give Wright an opportunity, he took a couple of steps fired a couple inches over.
Tourism is a cornerstone of the local economy in many parts of East Fife, and is significant nationally in terms of income and supporting employment. St Andrews' role is again central to the Local Plan strategy as it has a competitive advantage as the recognised 'home of golf' and through its cultural connections. In addition, the University has potential to support tourism through its heritage, accommodation, and academic resources. East Fife as a whole is attractive to visitors as a place for leisure activities with assets such as the environment of East Neuk coastal villages, championship golf courses, the Fife Coastal Path and inland walking routes. Hotel and commercial leisure development are therefore supported by the Local Plan strategy and opportunities are identified at Craigtoun Park and the former airfield at Fife Ness, Crail.
