Drew Carey: Los Angeles
built 178 days ago
Mike Karz, an executive producer of Geppetto, says Carey was drawn to the TV movie because "there are issues Drew connects with. Losing his father is part of it. Pinocchio lost his father." Geppetto, a toymaker, created a child out of wood to ease his loneliness. "Drew identified with the idea of a man who works hard all day making toys and providing tremendous joy to others," says Karz. "Yet at the end of the day, everybody's gone. Drew is a guy who works extremely hard, millions watch and laugh, but at the end of the day, the set is empty."

In a new Reason.tv video, Gridlock, Carey, who's used to handing out prizes on his game shows, gives one lucky commuter a ride to work he'll never forget. Carey hires a helicopter to transport Josh Lipking to and from work. Josh's short 16-mile commute is actually one of the worst in Los Angeles. In free-flowing traffic conditions, Josh could get to work in just 25 minutes. Unfortunately, traffic is never free-flowing in Los Angeles. Instead, Josh spends 90 minutes – each way – stuck in traffic.

Carey ended up with a job that Rosie O'Donnell publicly said she coveted - and that Barker said she should get. But after meeting with show producers, O'Donnell said they wanted the show to remain in Los Angeles and she didn't want to move her family from New York, effectively bailing out of the process.
