Dreamweaver: Dreamweaver Templates
built 200 days ago
[One] aspect of Dreamweaver's flexibility is in the multiple ways that a uniform design may be maintained across all pages of the site. The user may choose to use any combination of CSS, and Dreamweaver templates and libraries to ensure consistency on their site. Dreamweaver offers a robust support for CSS, so many aspects of the design may be defined in a separate CSS document that is referenced across the pages of a site. Dreamweaver templates (see figure 2) may ... be used for designing the visual layout and composition of a page. Templates are most useful when a design changes. Rather than editing each page by hand, the user need only make the editing changes to the template, and Dreamweaver will automatically update all pages that use that template.
Dreamweaver is one of the most powerful application for building and managing webpages. With Dreamweaver you can create tables, forms, CSS styles; you can create your own templates and use them to edit hundreds of pages on your website with a single mouse click. Pages created with Dreamweaver typically result in cleaner HTML code, and they look almost perfect in Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Opera.

In terms of site management, Dreamweaver 4 provides a slew of new features of which the new Asset panel is the most impressive. This single floating palette brings together control over all of a site's library items, templates, external links, colours, movies and images! The Site window has ... been revamped to offer site-wide reporting of common errors, such as empty tags and untitled documents, and also to allow custom fields to be easily added and tracked. Other collaboration features include integrated emailing of team members and new support for Visual SourceSafe for version control and WebDAV for content management
dreamweaver box shots Dreamweaver training ... enables you to build your own custom templates, allowing alterations to hundreds of pages to be made with one single change - great large web sites! It also has an awesome array of database utilities which makes creating dynamic pages a breeze and gives a good advantage in the battle of Dreamweaver vs Microsoft. Dreamweaver has an extensive collection of advanced tools and may at times be a little too complex for those who wish to merely edit pages. Fortunately, Adobe Contribute is available and is part of the Adobe Studio suite and enables easy website maintenance. "Non techies" can edit the content of pages, whilst the coding part of the page is protected.
Dreamweaver offers many tools and processes that help to manage a web site after it has been designed and built. The best web sites are living documents that change and grow over time. Once a site has been constructed using templates and library items, it is easy to update and add content. New pages may be built from existing templates. (see figure 4) New templates may be built that incorporate existing templates. And existing templates may be modified to reflect the changing focus of a web site.
With its use of library items and templates, Dreamweaver recognises that the majority of pages on a site share overall design and navigational frameworks. That's great for scaling up freeform sites while maintaining consistency, but eventually even this becomes inefficient. For e-commerce sites in particular the format of the content tends to be absolutely fixed - price, size, comments, image and so on - while the number of individual items can be virtually unlimited. In these circumstances even the most efficient hands-on design process proves inadequate.
