Since the 2002 release of Dreamweaver MX and Dreamweaver MX 2004 the following year, web professionals have had an embarrassment of riches in expressive features, efficient workflows, and an easy method of managing web content. The user experience of Dreamweaver 8 is basically the same as its predecessor. Users of the previous version of Dreamweaver will have no trouble jumping right in to version 8. The panels are all about the same, located in the same place, and the toolbars and tabs are the same. Just looking at the app, version 8 is very much like MX 2004, but that's where the similarities end. Under the hood, Dreamweaver 8 is a whole new beast.

The Media Types toolbar button allows you to switch the built-in Dreamweaver rendering mode so that it displays as another media type. For example, if you have a print stylesheet defined on your page, click the toolbar button and change to "Print" and Dreamweaver will now render the page as defined by the print stylesheet. There is every reason to believe that upcoming Dreamweaver MX will enable developers to create valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional pages. However, Dreamweaver versions 4 and earlier do not automatically generate valid XHTML. There are a few things you can do to make Dreamweaver 4 write XHTML.
