Drawn Together is an American animated television series that uses a sitcom format with a TV reality show setting. The show's eight cartoon characters are a combination of recognizable parodies of cartoon stock characters and other generic young people whose characters all parody the general personality types that typically are seen in TV reality shows. The characters agreed to live in a house together in a setup similar to that of The Real World. It airs on Comedy Central and was created by Dave Jeser and Matt Silverstein, and it first aired on October 27, 2004. Comedy Central advertises it as the first animated reality show.

Drawn Together is an animated series about various parodies of cartoon characters from different genres of animation merged together to live under one roof. The characters depart from their animated realities and penetrate a new world where their personalities smash into one another. With a format similar to a reality show, the characters participate in challenges and endure their relationships with their housemates while under taped surveillance.

Much like The Simpsons and Family Guy, Drawn Together is heavy with pop culture references. Animation is a major source of material; as mentioned above, many characters from comics and animated cartoons make cameo appearances and often are the subjects of parody. However, numerous live action films, TV shows, and video games are referenced as well. Reality shows are another prime inspiration, not surprising given that Drawn Together is presented as a reality show that takes place in a cartoon world. However, although many of the first-season plots made extensive use of the reality show scenario, this aspect of the show has largely been de-emphasized in later episodes. The spoofing of film and television clichés is another common theme on the show; many Drawn Together stories are parodies of overused plots from TV and movies.

In a parody of Jim Henson's Muppet Babies the Drawn Together characters are inexplicably shown as toddler siblings. Their parents, after unceremoniously departing for court-ordered therapy, leave the babies in the care of a babysitter named Charlotte. Presently the babies are in a state vastly different to their current personalities, such as Foxxy being averse to nudity and Spanky being in favour of cleanliness. This soon changes after the babysitter forcefully announces that her boyfriend Chad is coming to the Drawn Together house and ... the babies need to go to bed early. Spanky devises a plan for revenge, the course of which transforms each baby's personality. After the construction of an elaborate trap to lock the babysitter in the nursery closet, Ling-Ling is the only one to point out the plan's major flaw.

The first version of this exhibit, Drawn Together: Women Make Art in the American West, was produced by the Women of the West Museum with support from Xcel Energy Foundation. The table top exhibit, configured as a large, elegant, canvas book, premiered at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, in Boulder, Colorado. The exhibit subsequently toured Colorado, presented at the Durango Arts Center, the Loveland Museum and Art Gallery, and the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center (Pueblo).

Drawn Together is on at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery until 24 September 2006. It will then travel to regional galleries in New South Wales and Victoria over a two year period. The exhibition is supported by Visions of Australia, an Australian Government Program supporting touring exhibitions by providing funding assistance for the development and touring of cultural material across Australia.
