At first, the American “Greatest Hits” version of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 that was released in late 2005 did not contain promised extra features. It claimed to have the original Japanese voice acting cast in the instruction booklet and on the back of the box, but was deprived of such features. It ... tended to corrupt saved data from the original version of Budokai 3. Essentially it was the original game disc repackaged again.

In September 2002, Dragon Ball Z was Number One on all cable TV (#1 program of the week on all cable television with boys 9-14). Currently the show still airs on Cartoon Network's Toonami Saturday night block at 10:30 PM ET/PT. With the success, Funimation then started to dub the original Dragon Ball series, along with Dragon Ball GT.

Like in the previous series Dragonball, Dragon Ball Z has many naming conventions/jokes. Saiyans are all named after vegetables. Vegeta, both the prince, his king father and the Saiyan home planet (originally named Planet Plant), means Vegetable; Raditz is 'radish', and Kakkorotto is 'carrot'. The villain Freeza (originally Friezer) comes obvious, and his brother Cooler and their father King Cold. All Namekians born from the villain in Dragonball were named after instruments (Piccolo, Drum, etc.) The Briefs family were all named after underwear, Bulma meaning panties, Doctor Briefs himself, Trunks, and Bra. And of course, various characters named after foods.

In the audio department, Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai pays perfect homage to its console brethren. Electric guitar rifts play during every fight, and all of the character voices are intact during battle. It’s probably a good thing that there aren’t voiceovers during the dialogue scenes- it probably would have turned the game into a proverbial Zero Wing if there had been. Not everyone will love the audio, but if you’ve seen Dragon Ball Z, or played any of the Budokai games, you know what to expect.
