It was a relief to return on Monday to the noise and bustle of the main school, where he was forced to think about other things, even if he had to endure Draco Malfoy's taunting. Malfoy was almost beside himself with glee at Gryffindor's defeat. He had finally taken off his bandages, and celebrated having the full use of both arms again by doing spirited imitations of Harry falling of his broom. Malfoy spent much of their next Potions class doing Dementor imitations across the dungeon; Ron finally cracked, flinging a large, slippery crocodile heart at Malfoy, which hit him in the face and caused Snape to take 50 points from Gryffindor.

In 1994, Draco attended the Quidditch World Cup with his parents from Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge's luxury box. He taunted Harry, Ron, and Hermione when a group of Death Eaters began terrorizing the campers.

When Harry, Ron and Hermione entered the Great Hall for breakfast next day, the first thing they saw was Draco Malfoy, who seemed to be entertaining a large group of Slytherins with a very funny story. As they passed, Malfoy did a ridiculous impression of a swooning fit and there was a roar of laughter.

Under the Invisibility Cloak, Harry, Ron, and Hermione spot Draco at Borgin and Burkes. Draco harasses Mr. Borgin about repairing one item and keeping another safe for him. Draco shows Mr. Borgin something on his arm that Harry correctly deduces to be the Dark Mark. On the Hogwarts Express, Harry invisibly spies on Draco and overhears him discussing with several other Slytherins a task given to him by Voldemort. Draco realises that Harry is listening, and once alone in the compartment, immobilises him and breaks his nose, then leaves Harry stranded on the train until he is rescued by Nymphadora Tonks.

Draco meets Harry at Diagon Alley without knowing who he is and they have a relatively friendly exchange. Once they meet at Hogwarts ... Malfoy and Potter become bitter enemies after Harry sides with Ron Weasley.

Malfoy is taken on the Slytherin Quidditch team as Seeker, and is suspected of being the heir of Salazar Slytherin. Harry, Ron and Hermione disguise themselves as Crabbe and Goyle using Polyjuice Potion to find out, but he has no idea who is.
