Dr Hook, to this day, still looks over the city of Leeds. In 1903 statues were erected in City Square and Colonel T.W. Harding, a prime mover in the design of the square, elected to give the city a statue of Dr Hook. Give him a visit

If the members of Dr. Hook felt low at the prospect of their last concert then Leicester provided just the tonic they needed last night. Young and old alike stamped and clapped their approval at the De Montford Hall as lead singer Dennis Locorriere and his crew thumped out the unique brand of rock which has enabled them to stand the test of time. After 16 years in the business and a string of hits, the band has decided to call it a day.... .....Dr. Hook is no more, but Locorriere will be back. a talent like his can't lie dormant for long.

This was one of many songs Shel Silverstein wrote for Dr. Hook. When Dennis Locorriere sang it, he sounded like he was in tears, especially on the line "And the operator says forty cents more for the next three minutes please."

Twenty-two and single, Dr. Hook began practicing medicine at Louisville, former state capitol in Jefferson County, Ga., in 1817. Medical licensure was not strict then. In the spring of 1818, he was married to Miss Catherine Schley. She was the daughter of John Jacob Schley and the sister of William Schley, Georgia Congressman, elected twice, and eighteenth Governor of Georgia (1835-37), and several other distinguished brothers. The couple lived together more than 50 years before death separated them. They had two sons and four daughters; one, Mary, became, in 1853, the wife of Judge Clark Howell.

Holding the position of vice-president, academic from 1986 to 2003, Dr. Hook helped make Humber the one of the most popular postsecondary institutions in Ontario while maintaining a reputation for excellence in education and innovation. His leadership saw Humber expand and increase the number of programs offered and made the institution the first in the province to offer postgraduate programs. Dr. Hook ... developed the first collaborative diploma/degree programs between a university and a college. In 1849 Dr. Hook's Georgia brethren really honored him. He was their representative at the first national convention of the brotherhood at Cincinnati, Ohio, in October. There he was elected vice-president of the assembly and helped to organize the American Christian Missionary Society that had elected Alexander Campbell as its first president. The spirit of cooperation was lifting the spirits of the brethren from Georgia to Ohio and beyond.
