Double Dare formed around 1985 in Canada as a duo effort between guitarist Andy McLean and vocalist Wendy Lands. McLean, originally from England, spent the first half of the '80s working with a group called the Tenants. When the band met its end in November of 1984, McLean soon formed a friendship with Lands, who was doing both vocal work and acting at the time. Together, the pair became Double Dare, and began writing some new songs and making a few demos with the hope of drawing attention from a big label.

Double Dare is a children's game show, originally hosted by Marc Summers, that aired on Nickelodeon. It is often credited with putting the then-fledgling network on the map. An issue of TV Guide released a list of the 50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time on American Television which placed Double Dare at #29.

Double Dare never jumped and double dare 2000 wasn't the shows demise. nick could have brought back double dare 2000 again and made it faster and solved all the tiny problems all the sad people complained about. but instead nick cancelled it because they're too lazy to have to u know say words to make things change. that would use too much energy. anyway double dare 2000 brought back all the magic of double dare and added it to 2000 times the amount of slime of the original. its great and jason tiffany and the others do a great job on whats there.
