Doris is an American singer, actress, and animal welfare advocate; she was one of the busiest and most popular actresses of the 1950s and 1960s. She was named ''Doris'' after silent movie actress Doris Kenyon, whom her mother liked. Her family's nationality is German and her religion is catholic, despite her parent's divorce.

A vivacious blonde with a wholesome image, Day was one of the most prolific actresses of the 1950s and 1960s. Able to sing, dance, and play comedy and dramatic roles, she is considered by some to be an all-round star. She has almost 40 films to her credit and has recorded approximately 45 albums.
Born Doris Mary Ann Von Kappelhoff in Evanston, OH, Day's optimistic philosophies would be tested from her earliest experiences. With childhood dreams of becoming a ballerina dashed after being involved in a near-fatal car crash, Day took to heart her mother's suggestion of refining her skills as a vocalist. Possessing a voice of distinct beauty at the youthful age of 14, Day was soon discovered by a vocal coach who arranged an appearance on a local radio station WLW. The rest, as they say, is history.
