The Door Peninsula is a peninsula in eastern Wisconsin, separating the southern part of the Bay of Green Bay from Lake Michigan. The peninsula begins in northern Brown and Kewaunee counties and proceeds north to include the bulk of Door County. It is the western portion of the Niagara Escarpment. Well known for its cherry and apple orchards, the Door Peninsula is a popular tourism destination. With the 1882 completion of the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, the northern half of the peninsula became an island.

On the western edge of the Door Peninsula, the dips of the rocks are much steeper, and form the prominent bluffs and the face of the cuesta, the escarpment. (Niagara Escarpment Commission, 1999).

The Door Peninsula of Wisconsin separates Green Bay from Lake Michigan, and was ... assumed by many to have been the boundary between the Green Bay and Lake Michigan Lobes of the Laurentide Ice Sheet. However, ice flow indicators in Door County show virtually no evidence of ice movement from the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula. Striations are most commonly oriented due south to south-southeast, with a few striae oriented south-southwest (parallel to the axis of the peninsula). Streamlined bedrock hills and drumlins, both subaerial and submerged, indicate ice flow from the north and northwest, out of the Green Bay basin. Pebble fabrics from two different till units also indicate ice flow from the northwest, even in exposures on the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula. These features suggest that ice flow out of the Green Bay basin dominated the glacial landscape rather than flow from the Lake Michigan Lobe, at least during late Wisconsin time and possibly during earlier ice advances as well.

The Whistling Swan, the Door Peninsula's oldest operating inn, was originally built in Marinette, Wisconsin, in 1887. In 1907, it was moved across the ice of Green Bay by teams of horses to become part of Dr. and Mrs. Welcker's Resort and Casino. The inn, along with its other historic neighbors, has been designated part of the Welcker Historic District and is listed on both State and National Historic Register.
