Founded by singer/songwriter/guitarist Alex Radeff as a vehicle for his eclectic songs, Donkey is an original rock/pop group based in Toronto. The music ranges from melodic rock to avant garde and beyond, each song from a unique songwriting perspective. The project first gathered critical praise with two independent releases in the mid/late 90's. High profile media figures such as Moses Znaimer and Gary Topp heard and supported the group's musical/artistic direction. Building a loyal following as a trio in Toronto's "live original music scene" and encouraged by airplay on Canadian, European and American radio, Radeff and Donkey maintained a steady stream of club dates in such Toronto venues as the Horseshoe, El Mocambo, Lee's Palace, Rivoli and the Opera House among others. 1999 saw Donkey release the debut CD "Kickback". The rocking anthem "Wartime" was a hit in Romania where it remained in the Top 20 for 14 weeks while the Kosovo war raged on. "Kickback" ... received airplay in Canada, the U.S. and Japan. Through the years 2000/2001 Donkey continued a busy schedule of live shows including two excellent headlining dates at Toronto's Hard Rock Café with the late, legendary impresario Gino Empry in attendance. 2003 brought the release of "Nodding At The Universe", a collection of adventurous musicianship and songwriting that saw airplay and exposure far & wide. From 2004-2007 the band continued to gig through a netherworld of Toronto bars and nightclubs, performing 55 one nighters by the end of 07 . In October 06 Alex Radeff (solo) opened for British rock legend Arthur Brown when he came to Toronto on tour. "Good lyrics" said Arthur. Alex Radeff & Donkey's third CD will be released in early 2008. The CD is called "The Calling Of The Streets" and it is Donkey's best work yet.

The Donkey was the lawn tractor/wheel barrow in old Ireland. There are still some today being used to haul the Turf or Peat. The Irish still burn Turf in their fire places. It is a fuel like coal.
Donkey Kong first arrived in the arcades in 1981 as the game that Shigeru Miyamoto designed to replace the ill-fated arcade game Radar Scope. It featured a mustachioed man in brightly colored overalls who would go on to achieve monumental fame and bring Nintendo a lot of fortune. Originally he was simply called Jumpman and was labeled a carpenter, he was eventually named Mario and identified as a plumber.
The 30 second TV commercials use the much-loved characters Donkey and Gingerbread Man, who discuss with studio execs how life-like they become when viewed on HD DVD. Currently airing, the two TV ads will run during network prime time and on several cable outlets. The ads incorporate the tagline "It all begins with HD," to convey that DVD is taken to the next level with HD DVD.
[One] story on how the game's name evolved was that it was supposed to be "Monkey Kong", but due to a barely legible fax transmission, the screenprinters created thousands of pieces of artwork that read "Donkey Kong" instead. Since the manufacturers were in a rush to get the game released, they opted to change the game's title rather than wait for the artwork to be reprinted.

Donkey derbies are a regular feature of many charity days and other events throughout the summer season. Whilst many are well run and ensure the welfare of the donkeys is fully protected, there have been others, which have given rise to much concern.
