Donald Trump's name is synonymous with New York hustle and money at the turn of the 21st century. Trump started young in his father's New York real estate business, and by the 1970s had made himself a Manhattan deal-maker, somehow talking banks and city government into financing his ambitious developments. He built the grandiose Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in 1982, and soon he moved into the casino business in New Jersey. Outspoken and flamboyant, Trump became a favorite of the press, and his multiple marriages and divorces were regular tabloid fodder. (Trump was married to model Ivana Zelnicek from 1977-92 and to Marla Maples from 1993-99. He married his third wife, Slovenian model Melania Knauss, on 22 January 2005.) Trump went suddenly on the skids in 1990, finding himself over $900 million in debt and facing bankruptcy.

When he was in his teens, Donald Trump attended the New York Military Academy, where he would graduate with honors. There, he participated in a variety of sports, including baseball, soccer, and football. Following, he attended Fordham University, obtaining a BA in Finance. Upon graduation, Trump felt ready to join his father’s empire at Trump Organization. In New York City, the two built up the Swifton Village Apartments, the Commodore Hotel, and the Javits Convention Center.

Born on June 14, 1946 in Queens, New York, Donald John Trump began his entrepreneurial career at his father's company, the Trump Organization. While in college, he worked on his first project, the revitalization of the foreclosed Swifton Village apartment complex in Cincinnati, Ohio. He single-handedly managed to provide 100% occupancy in the once almost abandoned apartment. However, his early success did not continue on, as he experienced bankruptcy in the 1990s. By 1994, he was able to eliminate a large portion of his $900 million debt. After a number of financial challenges down the road, Trump was still able to re-emerge the company from bankruptcy as Trump Entertainment Resorts Holdings.

Learning real estate firsthand from his father at the Trump Corporation, Trump demonstrated great skill at his father’s business before seeking his own fortune as a Manhattan real estate developer. Once again expanding his opportunities, Trump has most recently been regarded for starring in the NBC reality series The Apprentice, in which he searches for his newest underling from among several contestants. Trump is the father of three children from former wife Ivana Zelnickova Winklmayr and one child with former wife Marla Maples. In January of 2005 he wed model Melania Knauss with whom he has no children.

Donald John Trump was born in 1946 in Queens, New York City, the fourth of five children of Frederick C. and Mary MacLeod Trump. Frederick Trump was a builder and real estate developer who came to specialize in constructing and operating middle income apartments in the Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn. Donald Trump was an energetic, assertive child, and his parents sent him to the New York Military Academy at age 13, hoping the discipline of the school would channel his energy in a positive manner. Trump did well at the academy, both socially and academically, rising to be a star athlete and student leader by the time he graduated in 1964. He entered Fordham University and then transferred to the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania from which he graduated in 1968 with a degree in economics.
