Don Ferguson bears what may be a unique distinction. He has the held lofty title of "Fellow," a title associated with being a distinguished technologist, at not only IBM but Microsoft as well. Last year, Ferguson left IBM, where he had participated in development of the company's WebSphere middleware platform, to come to Microsoft. He is a technical fellow in the Microsoft Office of the CTO. InfoWorld Editor at Large Paul Krill met with Ferguson at the Microsoft SOA and Business Process in Washington this week to talk about Microsoft, including the company's new Oslo modeling and services project, and IBM.
Don Ferguson Don Ferguson graduated from Montreal's Loyola College with an Honours English degree, then worked in radio and as an audio-visual producer and photographer until he discovered that comedy writing and performing was more fun. Don has written and directed documentary programs for CBC Television, a science-fiction series for radio, a political farce for the stage (Skin Deep) and a stage drama about the ill-fated World War II raid on the French port of Dieppe. Don is a popular after-dinner entertainer, and a keen sailor. His most famous Air Farce characters are Lucien Bouchard, Preston Manning, the Chicken Cannon's Col. Stacy, Mike Harris, Bill Clinton, and former prime ministers Brian Mulroney, Pierre Trudeau and Joe Clark.

Toronto, ON, June 8, 2007 – Roger Abbott and Don Ferguson of CBC’s Royal Canadian Air Farce have been recognized with the Yvonne Alexander Award for their outstanding support of The Easter Seal Society of Ontario. The award was presented at Easter Seals’ Annual General Meeting held yesterday. The Yvonne Alexander Award is Easter Seals’ most distinguished volunteer award and is named in honour of the late wife of the former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Lincoln Alexander.

Don Ferguson, who guided IBM's strategy and architecture for SOA and Web services, and co-authored many of the initial Web service specifications, has been hired by Microsoft. He is now Microsoft Technical Fellow in Platforms and Strategy, in the Office of the CTO.

His interests include raising and playing with his children, distributed systems, simplifying application development, systems management, Web services, transaction processing, performance and karate.
