Don Ameche: Frances Langford
built 613 days ago
Don Ameche stars in this sentimental WW2 era drama as a druggist whose son is killed in action and while feeling sadness is visited by the ghost of his own father (Harry Carey). Also starring Frances Dee. Excellent quality.
Ameche was a major radio star, heard on such shows as Empire Builders, The First Nighter Program, Family Theater and the Betty and Bob soap opera. Following his appearances as announcer and sketch participant on The Edgar Bergen/Charlie McCarthy Show, he achieved memorable success during the late 1940s playing opposite Frances Langford in The Bickersons, the Philip Rapp radio comedy series about a combative married couple. It began on NBC in 1946, moving to CBS the following year.
This was a thirty-minute comedy series featuring the quarrelsome husband and wife, John and Blanche Bickerson, played by Don Ameche and Frances Langford. The bickering usually began when Blanche could not sleep because of her husband’s incessant snoring. She woke him constantly to tell him off, turning domestic bliss into all-out warfare! There were actually only around 18 episodes broadcast named the Bickersons although that is the name by which most people remember all three shows, previously called Drene Time and The Old Gold Show.
