Because of their love for dogs, PEDIGREE(R) Food for Dogs created The PEDIGREE(R) Adoption Drive to help shine a spotlight on the plight of homeless dogs. Through no fault of their own, more than four million dogs end up in shelters every year. Sadly, nearly half of those canines never find a place to call home, a trend that the PEDIGREE(R) Brand and Walsh hope to help reverse.

Therapy dogs were a big help during the World Trade Center tragedy. The Delta Society brought therapy dogs to the Red Cross respite centers so workers and volunteers could have a friendly (and furry!) face to help relieve some of the stress of the rescue efforts. Greyhound Friends Inc brought therapy dogs to the Red Cross Family Assistance Center to support and help calm families who had lost loved ones in the attacks. This most difficult experience was made a little easier by the wet kiss or furry face of a therapy dog.

Linda Burdick, whose daughter Danielle loves the dogs, has been staying in hotels since her apartment near ground zero became unlivable. "The dogs give you a sense of normalcy," she said. "New York feels so evil now, but here all these innocent, sweet dogs."
