In 2003 the Dodge Viper was changed dramatically, in both appearance and performance. The Dodge Viper was the fastest sports car for under 100 thousand, until the Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 came along. Dodge plans to counter the Corvette with a new, faster and nicer Viper in 2008. Let's hope. The Viper is a true American sports car.

The Dodge Viper is a two-seat sports car and is being considered as the most powerful car made by Dodge. Mostly, the Viper’s body and engines were built at the Connor Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. When it was introduced, the Dodge Viper was equipped with a standard 8.3 Liter V10 engines rated at 500-horsepower; this can achieve 12 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. A 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is a standard feature aptly pairing the engine. The Viper is ... equipped with powerful features like run-flat tires, side airbags, antiskid/traction control systems, power-adjustable pedals, tilt steering column, leather and faux-suede seats and ABS brakes. The first generation (1992-95) Dodge Viper had a front mounted engine driving its rear wheels. The centerpiece of the car was its engine which was originally designed as a truck engine. It lacked modern driver aids such as traction control or anti-lock brakes. It had a maximum speed of 164 mph. The second generation (1996-2002) models had greater engine power, improved suspension and reduced breaking distances. A coupe model, called the GTS, was introduced in 1996. The coupe had "double bubble" roof contours; two small humps to accommodate drivers wearing helmets.

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10รข€™s V-10 channels its power through a new, smaller-diameter, twin-disc clutch (a change from the previous larger-diameter, single-disc setup). The new clutch reduces rotating inertia by 18 percent, resulting in reduced clutch-pedal effort and improved engagement feel. The transmission is the latest evolution of the Tremec T56 six-speed manual, known as the TR6060. It features 10 percent wider gears for higher torque capacity and a new synchronizer package. A new shifter system results in reduced shifter travel. Club racers will applaud a new provision for adding an external transmission cooler.

The Dodge Viper - The viper idea all started in 1988 with just a clay model. Soon after the car was was constructed and displayed at put on display auto shows. The Chrysler Corporation did not expect the Viper to be such a big hit. The viper certainly got a lot of people interested, and in 1992 The first Viper RT/10 Roadster was produced. It initially came in only two color choices, black and the more common red. In 1996 The Dodge Viper GTS was introduced.
