Dodge Charger: Charger Se
built 658 days ago
Charger is getting a kid brother in the 2007 replacement for Dodge's midsize Stratus sedan. Called Avenger, it shares a platform, powertrain and many features with Chrysler's just-launched Sebring sedan, but looks like a scaled-down Charger. Dodge hasn't released particulars yet, but Avengers should have fewer standard features and lower list prices than Sebring sedans. More news soon, so keep checking back.
The Dodge Charger is fun to drive and enjoyable for just cruising along. It's perfectly in its element when making time on a freeway. Granted, this is no sporty, svelte coupe. It's a big, heavy, full-size sedan measuring more than 16 feet in length and tipping the scales near two tons, but it is responsive and entertaining. The 3.5-liter V6 is entirely adequate, while the V8s generate thrilling acceleration performance and make all the right noises.

Today's SRT8 Charger is the quickest sedan in the Dodge stable. It is powered by a 6.1-liter HEMI that has been lovingly tweaked by the SRT team. The SRT DNA is derived from the Street and Racing Technology (hence SRT) division within the Dodge division. The big bore V-8 cranks out 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick. The 69.8-horsepower-per-liter rating exceeds that of the legendary Street HEMI of the 1960s and '70s.

1971 dodge charger The six Dodge Charger models in 1971 included a base, hardtop, 500, SE, R/T, and Super Bee, a Road Runner imitation which became Dodge's street racer. It replaced the Coronet Super Bee with a standard 300HP 383 and floor mounted 3 speed manual. Optional engines were the 440 six pack and the 426 hemi.

The current Dodge Charger debuted for the 2006 model year and is based on the same Mercedes-derived platform used for the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum. As such, the Charger has four doors and is a bit larger than the average midsize sedan. Its front-end styling is much more aggressive than that of its siblings, and the rear roof line slopes downward in a coupe-like fashion.

With its successful, mid-year introduction of the 1966 model, the 1967 Dodge Charger require few if any changes. One minor exterior change was the addition of turn signals that were mounted on the tops of the fenders. In addition, the full length console was replace by a regular-sized console. Two new engines were available including the new 440 Magnum included in 660 Chargers. The second new engine included the 383 2 - barrel, which replaced the 361 V8. Even though the Charger was a huge success in 1966, the Donge company only produced 15,788 units in 1967.
