The Dodge Caravan is a minivan introduced in the year 1983 by Chrysler. The Caravan was based on the Chrysler K chassis. Though the caravan was the first of its kind vehicle launched, it lacked the flexibility of having the seats folded or the option of having the seats removed. The first generation Caravan was available in three model types, the base model, the SE and LE. The minivan was powered by a 2.5 Liter engine with a manual or automatic gear system as options. The company introduced a goods version of the vehicle in 1984, which was called The Mini Ram. The name of the minivan was changed to Caravan C/V in 1989 and its production was stopped in 1995.

The Caravan and the Plymouth Voyager really were the first modern minivans and created the space in the market for this type of vehicle. With Plymouth gone and the Chrysler Voyager dropped, the Dodge Caravan rolls into 2004 as the entry-level minivan in the Chrysler family. It becomes the only model that can be ordered bare bones with the 150-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder and roll-up windows. Of course, if you want luxury, Dodge will sell you the top-shelf SXT with a 215-hp, 3.8-liter V-6; all-wheel drive; and options such as a power liftgate, power-adjustable pedals, a rear-seat video entertainment system, and a huge, 33-by-21-inch sunroof. Redesigned for 2001, the Caravan features only minor changes this year, including some new colors and an Anniversary Edition package to celebrate the 20th year of production. The package includes special badging, two-tone leather seats, 16-inch chrome wheels, and the video system. With standard dual sliding doors, the Caravan remains a great family hauler.

Caravan is a 3-4 door minivan. Dodge Caravan was the first car in the minivan segment and created an entire new division in the market. It went on sale in the year 1984 as the 1985 model. The idea of minivan was the brain child of Lee Iacocca and Hal Sperlich since they were with Ford. However, Caravan beat Renault Espace to the market by just a few months to become the first minivan in the market.
