The Globe column ... noted that the top recipient of cash from the insurance industry, which includes health insurers, is another Democrat, Connecticut's Christopher Dodd, at $605,950. Romney and Republican Rudolph Giuliani are second and third, with Clinton and Obama fourth and fifth.
The turning point... is arguably the racist beat-cop’s parting advice to the Ryan Philippe character, that in that job you do not know who you are until you get into the actual situation. The film then has the racist cop instinctually follow his training and save the life of the Black woman he has violated, at great risk to his own — the risk is heavily spelled out visually — and the decent rookie in a moment of panic shoot a petty hood dead who has offered him only friendly conversation.

The impact of Sarbanes-Oxley is being felt even in sectors that do not have to comply. Non-profits are beginning to find out about the Act, assuming that at some point they will have to comply. "Once (a) law is enacted," wrote Janik, "neither the DOJ nor the FTC can successfully challenge the law" -- even if the agencies believe it may be anti-competitive. "A regulation of a state real estate commission cannot be found to violate the antitrust laws as long as the regulation was issued pursuant to a policy clearly articulated by the state legislature to displace competition with regulation by a state agency. Thus, if a real estate commission adopts rules that carry out real estate brokerage policy set by the legislature, an attack on that rule by the DOJ or FTC should fail."
